Actor Dino Morea has been arrested by the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in connection with the alleged Rs 65.54 crore Mithi River desilting scam. According to a Mid-Day report, the actor was taken into custody on October 2 after being questioned for several hours at his Bandra residence.

He was called in for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities linked to the Mithi River desilting project. The actor’s name has reportedly come up in connection with contractors and officials who are suspected of misusing public funds meant for flood prevention and drainage work in Mumbai.

Dino Morea questioned in Mithi River scam case

According to the ANI report, Dino Morea was questioned by the EOW based on certain leads in the investigation. He was reportedly questioned for around six to eight hours before being taken into custody. On Friday, the actor also reached the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s Office as part of the investigation.

The EOW is investigating alleged irregularities in the Mithi River desilting work, including questions over the handling of funds allocated for the project. The case involves allegations of embezzlement of public money by contractors and officials associated with the work.

The Mithi River project gained importance after the devastating Mumbai floods of 2005. The desilting and maintenance work was undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other civic agencies to improve the city’s drainage system and reduce the risk of flooding.

Investigations into the project have reportedly raised questions about the difference between the amount of desilting work claimed and the work actually carried out. These discrepancies have led investigators to examine how the funds allocated for the project were used.

ED raids at Dino Morea’s residence

The report further added that Morea’s name had also come up during a separate Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation in 2025. The agency conducted searches at 15 locations across Mumbai and Kochi, including the actor’s residence.

The searches were carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED was investigating individuals and organisations allegedly connected to contractors and officials under scrutiny in the financial irregularities case.
