Did Johnny Depp’s lawyer call him an abuser? Camille Vasquez clarifies after video goes viral

The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard saga is far from over. Now, it seems a video of the closing arguments by Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez has gone viral. The video has been trending ever since.

While the young lawyer has been lauded for her efforts, her closing argument against Heard in the defamation trial has triggered a debate. Based on the video, fans are wondering if Vasquez accidentally ended up calling Depp an 'abuser'.

To add fuel to the fire, fans of Heard were seen sharing the video suggesting that even Depp’s lawyer was supporting the Hollywood actress. In her closing statement, Vasquez said, "Amber never thought she would have to face her abuser."


The viral clip shows that Vasquez’s comment seems to be a slip of the tongue as the main argument was in favour of Depp being abused. However, this particular snippet went viral as part of a Twitter thread in support of Heard.
However, US magazine Newsweek has reported that sources close to Vasquez have informed that the lawyer clarified by saying that she had meant to say ‘abuse victim’.

Vasquez was a part of the legal team that represented Depp in his proceedings against ex-wife Heard. The jury awarded Depp a USD 10 million in compensatory damages while a USD 5 million in punitive damages. The punitive damages were later lowered to USD 350,000 million according to the Virginia law.

During the course of the proceedings, Vasquez emerged as a popular face owing to her frequent appearance before the media. Following the success of the case, Vasquez was promoted to the stature of a partner at her firm - Brown Rudnick.
