'Demeaning.' Allu Arjun’s Zomato ad leaves a bitter aftertaste for fans down South

Allu Arjun, who is basking in the stupendous success of his latest release ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, seems to have irked some of his fans. Admiration and criticism indeed come in equal measure, at least that is what is the reaction to the southern sensation's latest advertisement.

The ‘Pushpa’ actor recently appeared in an ad for Zomato which inadvertently ended up upsetting a lot of his fans. In the stylishly shot video clip, the actor is seen throwing punches in slow-mo. However, what upset the fans was not the superlative visuals, but the 39-year-old actor’s dialogues.

The actor is seen punching a man who falls on the ground in slow motion. The man asks Arjun, “Bunny, can you drop me faster?”. To this, the actor responds, “It's South cinema, this is how we do it.”

The dialogue according to some fans showed the southern film industry in poor light. The advertisement was intended to be a spoof on how movies in the south are made to be larger than life. However, a lot of fans were divided in their reaction to it.
The man at the receiving end of the ‘Arya’ actor's punches mid-air says that he is craving Gongura Mutton and that the restaurant may shut down by the time he lands. Allu Arjun in his characteristic style responds saying, “Gongura Mutton or anything, Zomato is there for you.”

While the ad angered many, a lot of people were seen praising the ad too.
Allu Arjun was last seen in ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ which went on to gross over Rs 350 crore at the box office. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Malayalam actor Fahadh Faasil. The sequel of the film ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ will be reportedly release in December 2022.
