You may not know his name, but you will go wow at his work. James Lavoie is a costume designer who has worked for over 50 productions across the globe, including Cirque Du Soleil.

For Lavoie, inspiration comes in many ways – including a caffeine kick. He says with a laugh, “I am really inspired after a double espresso in the afternoon. Just when my 3 pm desire to take a nap comes up. Otherwise after my morning mediation the ideas just kick in.”

And although his clothes are a far cry from suits, Lavoie does have a tip or two for those in suits. He says, “I would tell CEOs to go for drama. I think subtle prints, colours and textures is a good way to stand out from the crowd.

Since suits are basic, you need to experiment with the details. It makes all the difference.”

A classic bandhgala. It is a perfect ambassador of Indian style with its inherent lineage of Indian heritage, in a contemporary world. What makes the bandhgala interesting is that it can be worn differently in different parts of the world —be it with breeches, or with denims.
