BTS' Jungkook changes his iconic Instagram username, ARMY wants to start a petition to get his old handle back

It's no secret that K-pop band BTS enjoy a huge fan following across the globe. The seven-member band has a loyal fandom which is known as ARMY, who are pretty much everywhere and watching their every move, very keenly.

So when Jungkook, the youngest member of the Korean boy band BTS, changed his iconic Instagram username in the middle of the night, it did not go unnoticed. His one move caused a storm on the Internet as several fans took to Twitter and other social media sites to share their two bits on his new username.

The 24-year-old had a very unique username on Instagram which went by ‘abcdefghi__lmnopqrstuvwxyz’, as it cleverly missed two letters of English alphabet -- J and K ... aka JK, which is one of Jungkook's nicknames.


The new username of Jeon Jung-kook is 'jungkook.97' - the number 97 stands for 1997, the year the singer was born.

While many liked the singer's new nickname, some were left heartbroken as they revealed that they'd miss his old iconic username which stood out from everyone else and was also clever.

Some fans also took this as an opportunity to poke fun at Jungkook, all in good humour, of course, wondering if the singer changed the handle as he got fed up of forgetting his username every time he had to log in again.

“Could it be that Jungkook changed his IG username bec (because) his old username is too long, and has to spell all 26 alphabet characters except for JK? Haha. His new username looks now a fanmade hahaha jungkook.97," one user wrote on Twitter.

The singer changed his username on Instagram late Tuesday night after posting a scene from new Korean drama 'Twenty-Five Twenty-One' on his Stories. The K-drama is available on Netflix.

BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band which consists seven members - Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook, who sing and rap under Big Hit Entertainment. The band made their debut in 2010 and currently is one of the leading bands in the world.
