Researches in Japan have unveiled a concept car built with cellulose nano fibre — a material made from wood, agricultural waste and other organic materials. Here is a look at cars made of other unique materials:

Duroplast (TRABANT)

Former East German automobile manufacturer VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau created Trabant cars using a hard plastic known as Duroplast. The plastic was made from recycled stuff including pressed cotton fibres, synthetic resins and rags from the Soviet Union. It was in production from 1957 to 1990.

Bonded acrylic & fiberglass (BRICKLIN SV-1)
US entrepreneur Malcolm Bricklin wanted to produce a sports car with strong safety features. The SV-1 was made using bonded acrylic and fibreglass and was in production from 1974 to 1975.

Fake leather (VELOREX OSKAR)
Velorex, a manufacturing cooperative in erstwhile Czechoslovakia, made the Oskar from 1954 until 1971. The body had a steel skeleton and it was covered using a fake leather type material called Igelit stretched over the frame.
