‘Big B is God.' NRI family installs Rs 60 lakh statue of Amitabh Bachchan at home, Internet speechless

Fans of Bollywood superstars go to great lengths to express their admiration for their icons. And, Amitabh Bachchan, at 79, continues to lead the pack of most adored stars in the world. An Indian couple from New Jersey, US, took their love for the Shehenshah of Bollywood to the next level.

Internet Security Engineer Gopi Sheth and his wife Rinku are at present, the most talked about Indian couple in the US. The Sheths stunned everyone after they installed a life-sized statue of megastar Amitabh Bachchan at their home.

Big B’s famous ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ avatar has been immortalised in a statue and kept in a glass box at the couple’s home. The statue was designed in Rajasthan for a whopping USD 75,000 (about Rs 60 lakh).


The family came to be noticed after pictures of the statue went viral on the Internet. The couple who stays in Edison City of New Jersey had invited community leader Albert Jasani to unveil the statue. The statue of the megastar attracted close to 600 people to the Sheth residence.
Gopi said that the ‘Sholay’ star was like God to him and his wife. The engineer went on to say that they were not only inspired by the reel hero but also by Big B’s personality outside films. Gopi said that he and his family found Big B’s humility inspiring.

"He is nothing less than a god to me and my wife. The biggest thing that inspires me about him is not only his reel life but also the real life … how he manages himself in public, how he conveys and communicates …everything you know. He is very down to earth. He takes care of his fans. He is not like so many other stars. This is why I thought I should have his status outside of my house," Gopi was quoted as saying by PTI.

Gopi, a native of Dahod in Gujarat, shifted to the US in 1990. The fan has been running a fan website of the superstar - www.BigBEFamily.com. The name of the website is an acronym for ‘Big B Extended Family’. The engineer revealed that the actor was aware of the statue and had told him that he did not deserve such kind of treatment.
