Sakshi Malik is focusing on power and speed training during the lockdown.
Being a wrestler, Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi Malik has grappled with opponents and problems alike. The coronavirus, however, is a different animal.
Malik, 27, has no choice but to stay put at home in Rohtak, Haryana, and find a balance between training and finding creative ways to spend her spare time.
For example, she and her husband Satyawart Kadian, also a wrestler, marked their third wedding anniversary by baking a cake together.
“We are on a diet but had a piece of the cake,” Malik tells ETPanache.
Malik wants to improve the colour of her medal at the Olympics, which has been postponed to next year. But first she has to qualify. The delay allows her more time to get ready and make the cut.

Wrestling is a contact sport and this is an issue. I don’t get to wrestle now, so it is just power and speed training.”
Though Kadian is also a wrestler, he and Malik are in different weight categories. But where gym work is concerned, they do team up.
“I’m away from wrestling at this period but as professionals, we need to make sure we are fit all the time,” Malik says. “One year is a long time and I’m sure I will improve.”
