The film had around 9,403 shows on Sunday, indicating that it continued to attract audiences across theatres. The steady performance also suggests that the film's initial momentum was not dependent only on the Independence Day holiday.
Emraan Hashmi scores a major career milestone
The performance of Awarapan 2 has given Emraan Hashmi several reasons to celebrate. The film has reportedly become his biggest opener among solo films. It has also recorded the biggest opening for the Vishesh Films-Emraan Hashmi combination, making its initial box office performance particularly significant for the actor and the production house.
The sequel also moved past the lifetime collection of the original Awarapan on its opening day itself, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
The film is also reportedly among the biggest openers of 2026 so far. It has been placed as the third-biggest opener of the year, behind Dhurandhar 2 and Border 2.
The strong response is notable because the first Awarapan, released in 2007, did not become a major box office success during its original theatrical run. Over the years, however, the film developed a dedicated fan following. Its music, especially tracks such as Toh Phir Aao, continued to remain popular.
Will there be Awarapan 3?
The success of Awarapan 2 has already led to excitement about another film in the franchise. During a promotional visit to a Mumbai theatre with co-star Disha Patani, Emraan Hashmi interacted with fans during the interval and hinted at the possibility of a third instalment. While there is no confirmed announcement about Awarapan 3 yet, the tease has certainly added to the excitement among fans. Emraan also thanked the audience for supporting the sequel and indicated that the franchise now belongs to the viewers who have continued to show their love.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt, Awarapan 2 brings Emraan Hashmi back as Shivam Pandit nearly two decades after the original film. The sequel also stars Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi and Suvinder Vicky.
The original Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri, released on June 29, 2007. Although it initially struggled at the box office, its emotional storyline, music and Emraan's performance helped it gain a strong following over the years. Awarapan 2 is now building on that legacy. Stay tuned!
