Anil Kapoor’s much-talked-about action thriller 24 is returning to screens, this time on OTT. The series, which first aired on television years ago, is now set for a digital release, bringing it back into conversation at a time when fast-paced thrillers are again finding strong demand among viewers. For many, this will be a revisit. For others, it may be the first time watching a show that once stood out for doing things a little differently.

When and where to watch 24

The official announcement confirms that 24 will stream exclusively on JioHotstar starting April 24. Instead of dropping everything at once, the platform will release episodes in batches every week on Friday. This kind of release pattern is something streaming platforms have been experimenting with, especially for shows that rely on suspense.



Originally, the series aired on Colors TV. Season 1 premiered in October 2013 and wrapped up in December the same year. Season 2 followed a few years later, airing between July and October 2016.

Even now, 24 is remembered for its real-time storytelling format. Each episode covers one hour in a single day, which keeps the narrative tight and constantly moving. That format, along with the pace, made it feel very different from regular television dramas at the time.

The show follows Jai Singh Rathod, head of the Anti-Terrorist Unit, as he races against time to stop major threats while dealing with personal challenges. The mix of action, politics, and urgency is what helped it build a loyal audience during its original run.

Industry observers have often pointed out that the show arrived before the OTT boom but still managed to experiment with long-format storytelling in a way that is more common now.

Cast, crew and Season 3

The series was directed by Abhinay Deo and Rensil D'Silva. Alongside Anil Kapoor, the show featured actors like Tisca Chopra, Mandira Bedi, Sakshi Tanwar, and Sikander Kher, among others.

It was also one of the early Indian adaptations of an international format, based on the American series of the same name, and is still considered by many as a benchmark for the thriller genre on Indian television.

The OTT release has also brought back discussions about a possible third season. Anil Kapoor had earlier responded to a fan query with a short message saying, “Coming with 24 soon,” which led to speculation. However, there is still no official confirmation about a new season.
