Sachin Bhatia, Co-founder Ameyo, feels fitness has many aspects to it. Staying mentally and physically fit in these uncertain times is very important.

He told ET Panache, "I run for 10-15 km a week to maintain a healthy balance of my daily routine with my physical fitness. Additionally, I try and meditate 10 - 15 minutes a day to calm my mind. I start my day at 10 am each morning, entering my office room, wishing my family goodbye as I’d do on any other day, and focus on my work. This has been helping me strictly follow my routine and maintain a healthy work-life balance."

He has been regularly using Google Meet to stay in touch with the teams and get on with the action plan on weekly observations.

"Now that COVID-19 has cancelled almost all physical meetings for the rest of the year, we have gotten accustomed to working remotely with these video meetings. We’ve gone so far to arrange Virtual Webinars with our customers and partners across geographies using GoToWebinar and successfully executing our plan of action," he shared.

Getting the team to work virtually is still easy feels Bhatia engaging with them for different updates while navigating through the virtual meetings.

"What’s important here is to remember that taking a break should be effortless. Working with the team together lifts up the team spirit even if it’s virtual. It increases team positivity and helps us create a healthy work environment. The cherry on the top is that the teams sitting at different locations are more accessible than ever to engage with. Working from home has been really productive, helping us establish a high trust environment that comes with no location barriers," he said.

Communication is the key in these times when the entire organisation is working remotely with no access to physically meeting each other for Bhatia.
Sachin Bhatia thinks that the concept of working by calendar schedule is another hack that will never fail to work.
Sachin Bhatia thinks that the concept of working by calendar schedule is another hack that will never fail to work.

He said, "I remember how in a physical workspace our team used to sit together for lunch and we could call in huddle meetings for brainstorming. The virtual team needs the same environment to work in and it has worked for us really well that we start our meetings on video calls to meet each other virtually. This helps us create a relaxed environment where the team members can brainstorm and discuss without any challenge."

The other hack that he think will never fail to work is the concept of working by calendar schedule.

"My calendar is always open for my team and they can schedule meetings for any agenda and these open discussions have helped us generate many ideas. The uncertainty may persist for a longer period of time but what I have learned in this unprecedented time is that we have an incredible team that is ready to work for the company’s vision with an amazing response," he said.

The company has thrown many challenges to the team and they have worked out new solutions in only a few weeks’ time and this has happened virtually with minimum supervision required.

"We have successfully launched a new product on Video KYC and the team has managed end-to-end implementation, bringing it to the market faster than ever and winning customers with an amazing team spirit. The biggest learning for me has been the trust and faith that I share with my team. It has worked tremendously, leaving no stone unturned to make this lockdown a success for the entire organisation," he ended.

“For office culture to revive and survive, office spaces are looking at a pretty drastic alteration of layouts and design,” says Pankaj Poddar, the co-founder of Hipcouch, a Mumbai based Interior Design Company. He says the new normal will also see some reversal.

“We will see the reversing of very hot trends of open offices and shared desks.” While we wait for the official decrees, here’s what the rough framework is looking like so far according to Poddar.

Since offices will not be at maximum capacity, there is scope to ensure enough physical distance between two desks by simply skipping one in the middle. At the very least, or in addition, fitting a screen around each desk is also a good way to achieve this. Hot desking is now a no-go.

The way 2020 is going, it’s hard to predict anything this year with any accuracy, so we have no idea what monsoon will bring, but opening as many windows as you possibly can will increase ventilation and we suspect that a lot of offices will consider the option. Too hot? Your office may need to get a humidifier system in place to create a tougher climate for viruses.

A strict limit on how many people can crowd into a lift at one time may save you some of that awkward elevator silence, but it also means a longer wait every time you want to move from one floor to another. A good time to reassess your relationship with the staircase (your step counter will be a thing of pride at the end of each day!)

Whether this is good news to you or exactly the opposite, travelling for business will see a drastic drop, replaced instead by Zoom calls. Travelling anywhere is probably unwise for at least the next several months anyway, even as domestic flights are slowly opening up. Also, obviously don’t count on any outstation off-sites anytime soon.
