Ajay Devgn-backed VFX company distances itself from 'Adipurush' after teaser attracts memes & trolls

A day after being heavily trolled for 'cartoonish' visual effects in its teaser, Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn-backed company NY VFXwala issued an official statement after certain people of the media asked them if the VFX were made by them.

The note said that the company had not worked on the VFX on the Prabhas-starrer 'Adipurush'.

The statement - shared by movie trade analyst Taran Adarsh - read, "Leading VFX studio, NY VFXWaala has clarified that they have not worked/are not working on the CG/special effects of 'Adipurush'. An official note on their behalf clarified, 'we are putting this on record because we have been asked by a few media people'."



However, at the end of the teaser, the credits show the company's VFX supervisor Prasad Sutar, who has won the 2021 FilmFare Award in Best Visual Effects for 'Tanhaji'. Sutar is one of the producers of the upcoming film.

Talking to media during the 3D screening of the official teaser in Ayodhya, director Om Raut said that he was disheartened, but had expected the audience to react this way."

"I was disheartened for sure, not surprised because the film is made for a larger medium—the big screen. You can cut it down to some extent but can’t bring it down to a mobile phone. That’s an environment I can’t control. Given a choice, I’d never put it on YouTube but that’s the need of the hour. We need to put it there so that it reaches a wide audience," he was quoted as saying.

The film-maker wanted to bring the story of Ramayana to the silver screen. Besides Prabhas, it also stars Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon in pivotal roles.

Raut's last movie 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior', which won the 2022 Film Award in the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment category, also used a lot of VFX. The upcoming mythological film is his next directorial venture after 'Tanhaji'.

'Adipurush' has been produced by T Series and Retrophiles. It is slated to hit the theatres on January 12, 2023, in IMAX and 3D. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Raut, Sutar, and Rajesh Nair, the film will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
