Market Now: Nifty Bank index extends gains for 4th session
NEW DELHI: Decent gains in Axis Bank (up 1.55 per cent), Federal Bank (up 0.72 per cent), Bank of Baroda (up 0.71 per cent) and ICICI Bank (up 0.57 per cent) were keeping the Nifty bank index up in Wednesday's trade, helping the index extend gains for the fourth consecutive session.

The Nifty Bank index was trading 0.40 per cent up at 24,446 around 11:05 am (IST), with Kotak Mahindra Bank (down 0.30 per cent) as the only loser.

The Nifty50 index was trading 0.45 per cent up at 10,062, while Sensex was 0.47 per cent at 32,076 around that time.

Nifty FMCG was the only loser among sectoral indices. FMCG majors ITC (down 0.47 per cent), GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare (down 0.32 per cent) and Hindustan Unilever (down 0.22 per cent) were losing in Wednesday's trade.

Coal India Ltd, Idea Cellular, NHPC, Ashok Leyland and Reliance Industries were the most traded stocks on NSE.

Bharti Airtel, Bharti Infratel, Bajaj Auto and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation gained over 2 per cent in the Nifty50 index.

On the NSE, 1091 stocks were advancing, compared with 491 stocks declining and 389 stocks remaining unchanged.
