A software engineer has triggered an online discussion after withdrawing from a job offer upon discovering that the company would provide an HP laptop and did not allow employees to choose a MacBook as their work device.

Despite this, he said he preferred to withdraw before joining rather than begin the role while already dissatisfied with what he considered an important part of his working environment.

"I believe it is better to be transparent before my joining date rather than create an issue after starting," he wrote.
