The latest OTT releases are bringing a mix of gripping thrillers, family dramas, romance, comedy and coming-of-age stories to streaming platforms this week. From stories inspired by real events to mysterious deaths, complicated relationships and teenagers navigating unusual schools, there is plenty to explore across the latest lineup. Netflix has several new movies and series arriving between September 22 and 25, including Unabomber, The Final Problem, Blood Legacy season 2 and Minerva Academy. Here is a look at the movies and shows arriving over the next seven days.

Unabomber, September 25

Unabomber explores the life of Ted Kaczynski, tracing his journey from a gifted young mathematics student to one of the most notorious domestic terrorists in American history. Jacob Tremblay portrays Kaczynski at 16, when he enters Harvard and becomes involved in controversial psychological experiments conducted by Professor Henry Murray, played by Russell Crowe. Decades later, FBI agent Joanne Miller, played by Shailene Woodley, leads the investigation into a bombing campaign that began in 1978. Annabelle Wallis, Alexander Ludwig, Steven Ogg and Marc Menchaca also feature in the drama inspired by true events.

The series streams on Netflix from September 25.

The Final Problem, September 25

A deadly mystery unfolds when 13 people become trapped on a remote island off Mallorca after a violent storm. Their isolation takes a darker turn when Elisa Mander, an English tourist, is found dead. What initially appears to be suicide soon points towards murder, leaving everyone at the secluded hotel under suspicion. Retired actor Basil, who once played Sherlock Holmes, unexpectedly takes on the task of finding the killer.

Starring Jose Coronado, María Valverde, Martiño Rivas and Maribel Verdú, the four-episode Netflix miniseries is based on Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s bestselling novel. The period thriller combines secrets, suspicion and unexpected twists.

Blood Legacy season 2, September 24

Blood Legacy returns with the Ndlovu family facing an even more dangerous battle for power, reputation and inheritance. Khanyi, played by Xolile Tshabalala, is determined to clear her name after being framed for her father’s murder and abducted by a corrupt politician. Meanwhile, Mandla, played by Buyile Mdladla, becomes increasingly involved in political corruption under Minister Titus, portrayed by Ruben Naidoo. Siya, played by Mike Ndlangamandla, finds himself caught in a forbidden romance, while a manuscript revealing the family’s darkest secrets threatens to expose everything.

Netflix’s South African supernovela returns for its second season on September 24.

My Sad Dead, September 24

What happens when someone can see the dead? My Sad Dead follows Emma, whose unusual ability takes on a frightening dimension when her niece arrives and thousands of lives are affected. The chilling miniseries is inspired by the works of acclaimed Argentine horror writer Mariana Enríquez. Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larraín, known for films including Spencer, El Conde and María, adapts several of Enríquez’s short stories for the four-part limited series.

Blending supernatural elements with psychological horror, My Sad Dead promises an unsettling story where the boundary between the living and the dead becomes increasingly difficult to ignore.

A Different World, September 24

Nearly four decades after the original sitcom premiered, A Different World returns with a new generation at the centre of the story. The revival follows Deborah Wayne as she begins her freshman year at Hillman College, the same HBCU attended by her parents. While surrounded by their legacy, she is determined to create one of her own. The new group of students includes a first-generation criminal justice major, a talented five-star athlete, a psychology student who seems to have answers for everyone except himself, and a church-raised girl discovering her own values.

The Netflix series premieres on September 24, exactly 39 years after the original show debuted.

Brothers, September 23

What happens when two longtime friends decide to live together with their families? Brothers follows fictionalised versions of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as their friendship enters unfamiliar territory. The two move in together at McConaughey’s Texas ranch after Harrelson’s daughter’s wedding falls apart. What begins as an unusual family arrangement takes another turn when the pair uncover a secret that makes them question whether they could actually be brothers. Created by Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Lee Eisenberg and David West Read, the comedy series premiered on September 23 and explores friendship, family and an increasingly bizarre discovery.

The Love Hypothesis (streaming)

Olive is a Stanford University graduate student who finds herself in an unexpected fake relationship with biology professor Adam Carlsen. What begins as a convenient arrangement is meant to convince her friend Anh that Olive’s dating life is going perfectly. However, keeping up the appearance of romance becomes increasingly complicated when the two start developing genuine feelings for each other.

Based on Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling 2021 romance novel, The Love Hypothesis combines academic life, a pretend relationship and the familiar tension between what two people agree to and what they actually feel. The story follows Olive and Adam as their carefully planned arrangement starts becoming much more real.

Minerva Academy (streaming)

Minerva Academy takes viewers inside a military high school in Naples where life is governed by strict rules. Students wake up at dawn for flag-raising ceremonies, cannot use mobile phones or wear civilian clothes, and are taught military tactics and fencing. Romance is forbidden, while mistakes can have serious consequences. The eight-episode teen drama follows Salvo, a boy from a group home who joins the academy to uncover the truth about his best friend. Vincenzo dreams of a military career like his father, while Camilla is sent to the school by her wealthy Milanese family in the hope that the experience will change her behaviour.

Directed by Ivan Silvestrini and produced by Roberto Sessa for Picomedia, Minerva Academy stars Ciro Minopoli, Biagio Venditti, Margherita Buoncristiani, Beatrice Savignani, Simone Secce, Giulio Brizzi, Nicole Malaj and Alicia Edogamhe, among others. It premiered on September 22 following its appearance at the 2026 Giffoni Film Festival.
