The moment became even more difficult because his father was sitting beside him when the doctor delivered the news. Years later, Sami has revealed how his father’s reaction pushed him to make a life-changing promise.

Doctor’s warning left Adnan Sami shocked

Adnan Sami recalled the incident while speaking to Zoom, explaining that the doctor's words came as a major shock. What hurt him most was not just the seriousness of the warning but the fact that his father had been present during the consultation.

The singer described the moment as "a huge jolt". He said, "What made it even worse was that my father was sitting next to me when the doctor said it. I was more upset that he said it in front of my father because your loved ones react far more emotionally than you do. They love you and care about you."


The doctor’s warning was direct, Sami was told that he had only six months to live because of his weight. Instead of immediately accepting the seriousness of the situation, however, the singer initially tried to convince himself and his father that the doctor had gone too far.

He recalled trying to play down the situation and telling his father that the doctor was being overly dramatic. At that point, his father did not agree with him.

His father’s reaction changed everything

Sami said his father looked at him and questioned whether he genuinely believed the doctor was exaggerating. His father, according to the singer, could already see that his health had reached a serious point and did not think the warning was without reason.

Seeing his father become emotional forced him to confront the seriousness of his condition. The singer then made a promise to his father that he would fix the situation.

That promise became the beginning of a completely different phase of his life. Sami said he never expected the journey ahead to be easy. In fact, he described the challenge of losing such a significant amount of weight as a “Herculean task”.

For him, the motivation did not begin with wanting to look different or achieve a particular fitness goal. Instead, it came from a frightening health warning and the emotional impact it had on his family.

"I worked like hell. There were many times when I was working out, starving myself, depriving myself of so much, and after a whole week of intense effort, I’d realise I’d lost only half a kilo," he quipped.
