Coldplay’s Chris Martin surprises South Korean street musician with impromptu duet in London. Musician thought he was just a guy with ‘amazing energy’

A street musician in London had a fanboy encounter, but the moment passed before he could even realise it. Chris Martin, the lead vocalist of the British band Coldplay, was recently spotted on the streets of Central London, randomly joining street musician Ahn Ji-hoon for an impromptu duet performance on the band’s hit song Viva la Vida. Ji-hoon, who performs as HannyJunee, was, however, totally unaware of the once-in-a-million event unfolding before his eyes as he was busy singing. And before he could know it, Martin disappeared, which, according to Ji-hoon, felt like ‘magic’.

Ji-hoon, in an interview with the BBC, admitted that he felt that the man who sang along with him sounded really similar to Chris Martin, but he waved the thought away, justifying that someone like Chris could not be simply roaming in Trafalgar Square.

‘I thought: 'Come on, Hanny, don't be ridiculous, of course it's not him; Chris Martin doesn't roam the streets of London,’ revealed Ji-hoon, as quoted by the BBC. He simply thought Chris was a guy with ‘amazing energy, nice vibe, and a really good voice’. Only when he had finished his verse, Ji-hoon realised that Chris was gone.

Street musician’s reaction

Ji-hoon revealed that after his performance was over, onlookers came up to him and told him that the man he had just had a duet with was indeed Chris Martin. ‘When he sang the first line, I thought, ‘Whoa, this guy’s vocal timbre is insane. He sounds remarkably like Chris Martin,’ noted Ji-hoon.

The street musician from South Korea told CNN that he felt Chris Martin was having the time of his life singing his song as the singer was ‘smiling brightly’. ‘He coolly walked away right after the song ended,’ shared Ji-hoon.

Recalling the incident, which Ji-hoon has now posted on his Instagram handle, the musician confessed that he is not only grateful for the ‘unforgettable moment’ but also for how the chance encounter has been connecting with others around the world, as per CNN.
