Avengers Doomsday teaser debuts at World Series: New cast, cameos, plot, India release date and all you need to know about Robert Downey Jr.’s movie

Marvel fans got a fresh glimpse of Avengers: Doomsday during Game 1 of the World Series, as Marvel Studios teamed up with Major League Baseball (MLB) to promote the upcoming superhero film. The preview featured Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch and the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. It also included a humorous moment involving Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson.

The film, which stars Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, is scheduled to release in Indian cinemas on December 17, 2026, a day before its US theatrical release. With characters from the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men universes coming together, the movie is expected to bring several familiar faces into a new battle involving the multiverse.

The special preview aired during the opening game of the World Series, where the Tampa Bay Rays faced the Milwaukee Brewers. MLB had teased the collaboration on social media with a clip showing the Avengers logo appearing in a green-tinted sky above Milwaukee’s American Family Field. The league announced that an exclusive preview of the upcoming Marvel film would be shown during the game, which aired on Fox and streamed on Fox One.

In the clip, Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic takes the mound to throw the ceremonial first pitch to Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch. The preview also features Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, bringing back the original Captain America.

His appearance creates a moment of confusion for Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. With Steve Rogers back and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson carrying the Captain America shield, Ant-Man is unsure whom he should address by the superhero title.

However, the clip does not reveal much about the main storyline.

Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom: Plot and cast details

In Avengers: Doomsday, the multiverse faces a major crisis as different realities begin to collapse. Heroes from multiple Earths must come together to confront Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.

The cast includes several familiar faces from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, Mackie plays Captain America, Rudd appears as Ant-Man, and Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki. Simu Liu returns as Shang-Chi, while Letitia Wright plays Black Panther and Tenoch Huerta appears as Namor. Winston Duke is also part of the film as M’Baku.

The Fantastic Four and members of the New Avengers are expected to play a part in the story following their appearances in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts.

The movie will also bring back actors associated with the earlier X-Men films. Patrick Stewart returns as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. James Marsden will appear as Cyclops, while Channing Tatum returns as Gambit.

Hayley Atwell is among the other returning stars. Sandra Hüller has also reportedly joined the film in a secret cameo role, according to Collider report, though details about her character have not been revealed.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to release in Indian theatres on December 17, 2026. Its US theatrical debut is set for December 18.
