Ravi Kishan reveals how he lost 18 kg at 57
Actor-politician Ravi Kishan says he did not rely on weight-loss medicines or shortcuts to transform his body. Instead, the 57-year-old credits simple changes in the way he eats along with regular exercise for helping him lose 18 kg. The actor shared that his weight dropped from 90 kg to 72 kg after changing his eating habits, while also following a flexible version of intermittent fasting that sometimes includes the One Meal A Day (OMAD) approach.

His transformation has also sparked interest in the OMAD diet, an eating pattern that limits calorie intake to one main meal each day.

Talking about his fitness journey with Hindustan Times, Ravi Kishan said, "I was 90kg and dropped to 72kg. Prepare kar raha hoon apni body ko, ripped kar de raha hoon, and shrink kar raha hoon (I'm preparing my body, getting ripped, and slimming down)."

He explained that frequent travel to his Gorakhpur constituency and political responsibilities had caused him to gain weight. However, he later returned to a fruit-heavy eating pattern to regain a leaner physique.

"I lost 18kg by changing how I eat," he said.

According to the actor, diet plays a much bigger role than many people realise, especially after the age of 50.

Film roles pushed him to transform his body

Ravi Kishan said his changing screen roles also motivated him to get back into shape.

"'Laapataa Ladies' (2024) required me to look heavy; in 'Mirzapur: The Movie' I will look lean, while in 'Naagzilla' I have a super-fit body. When you are in your 50s, it's not easy, but food changes can help, as 70-80% is what you eat and the rest is exercise."

He added that while workouts remain important, eating right is the biggest factor behind lasting weight loss.

What does Ravi Kishan eat?

The actor clarified that he does not follow a rigid fruit-only diet throughout the year. Instead, he adjusts his meals depending on his work schedule.

"It's Mahadev's blessing that he gives me the strength to be on a one-meal diet, intermittent fasting or exclusively on fruits," he said.

He added, "But I keep tweaking it to manage my political duties. These days, Parliament is in session, so I take soaked dry fruits and salad. As needed, I add protein, carbs and ghee too."

His regular food choices include avocado, kiwi, apples, bananas, oranges and fresh juices.

Ravi Kishan also stressed that exercise remains essential. "Your pant waistline is the biggest monitor, and it never lies. But along with diet, you need to exercise regularly for muscle health."

What is the OMAD diet?

OMAD, or One Meal A Day, is an extreme form of intermittent fasting. According to Healthline, people following this eating pattern consume all their daily calories within one meal or a short eating window and fast for the remaining hours of the day.

The diet creates a calorie deficit because people usually consume fewer calories overall. Some studies have linked intermittent fasting with weight loss and improvements in blood sugar control, inflammation and certain heart disease risk factors. However, research also suggests that OMAD is not necessarily more effective than traditional calorie-controlled diets for long-term fat loss.
