New look, new era? Ariana Grande has the internet talking-here's why 'Bobiana Grande' has everyone doing a double take
Ariana Grande has embraced a fresh look with a chic shoulder-length bob, stepping away from her iconic ponytail. After a whirlwind year of tours and media appearances, she has chosen to pause public engagements amidst personal transformations and ...

Grande showed off the new look in an Instagram post on Thursday, October 22. The transformation comes after a busy year of touring, film promotions and personal changes, as she prepares to take a break from public appearances.
What Does Ariana Grande’s New Haircut Look Like
Ariana Grande flexed her new hairstyle through a series of selfies on Instagram. Her dark brown hair is now cut into a shoulder length bob. Styled with a deep side part and retro-inspired, flipped-out ends. The look is among the shortest hairstyles she has worn in recent years. It also resembles the style she sported while playing a Catwoman-like character in the music video for “The Boy Is Mine” in June 2024.
Hairstylist Brandon Pietsch confirmed his involvement in the transformation through his own Instagram post, revealing that he had done Grande’s cut and color.
“The ponytail is taking a hiatus ,” Pietsch wrote.
Ariana's high ponytail has been closely associated with her image for years.
She previously explained why she often wore the style. In a 2014 post, Grande said, “I wear extensions but I wear it in a ponytail because my actually hair is so broken.”
During her recent Eternal Sunshine Tour, which ended on September 1, her hair extended past her lower back. She wore it in a reworked version of her familiar high ponytail as well as a ballerina bun during performances.
Why is Ariana Grande taking a break from the spotlight
The haircut comes as Ariana prepares to step back from public-facing work after an especially busy period. According to PEOPLE, her representative said on August 2 that the singer would be “taking a step back from visibility” after completing her tour and promoting her upcoming film, Focker-in-Law, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 25.Her representative explained that the decision followed years of public attention and scrutiny.
“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the representative said.
The representative also added, “This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.” A source told PEOPLE in September that Grande remained committed to promoting Focker-in-Law, a project she is very proud of.
A Busy Year Behind Her
Grande's recent schedule included promoting the second Wicked film, releasing her eighth studio album and completing her first tour in six years. She also went through personal changes, including the end of a three-year relationship, while hinting at a possible renewed romance with former boyfriend and backup dancer Ricky Álvarez.Earlier this week, Grande also shared a tribute to her dog Coco, who died after 17 years. On October 19, she posted photographs and videos of Coco, remembering her as her “sweetest, most amazing and most beautiful coco.”
She also wrote, “I am so proud of you,” thanking Coco for her love and for being part of her life for more than seventeen years. With her tour finished and a break approaching, Grande's new retro bob offers a fresh look for the next chapter of her life.
