iOS 27.2 is out: Here's what new features iOS 27.2 bring to Siri and other Apple devices

Apple has released iOS 27.2 bringing a fresh set of Siri AI features and other changes to supported iPhones. Apple has also rolled out updates for Mac, Apple Watch, iPad, Apple TV and Vision Pro. Alongside the Siri improvements, users will find changes to Messages, Photos, Apple Music and other apps.

What’s new in iOS 27.2?

The biggest change in iOS 27.2 is Siri AI’s new memory feature. It can recall previous conversations thereby allowing users to ask about information shared in earlier chats. For example, someone can ask Siri about restaurants it recommended last week.

Siri can also draw information from more sources, including:

• photos attached to Messages
• Calendar event attendees
• voicemails
• Safari history
• Reading List

Apple has added an Excluded Apps setting, too. It lets users decide which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access. Another useful addition is granular text selection, which allows users to copy just part of a Siri response instead of the entire answer.

The update also expands Siri AI language support to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. However, Siri AI remains unavailable in the European Union and mainland China.

These advanced Siri features are available on all iPhone 16 models and later, along with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Other iOS 27.2 improvements are available across supported iPhone models.

Which other iPhone features are included?

Messages now offers contextual suggestions that can help users take action based on a conversation. For example, a dinner invitation can prompt the option to create a Calendar entry.

Photos also receives several improvements. Users can edit captions and comments in Shared Albums, avoid adding duplicate pictures and receive reminders before albums expire. Support for Google’s SynthID watermarking technology helps identify images created or modified using generative AI in Photos and Image Playground.

The update brings changes to other Apple apps, too. Podcasts now separates New Episodes from Continue Playing on its Home tab. The Games app provides more context about friend suggestions and recently played games.

Apple TV is adding simple user profiles which allows household members to receive recommendations based on their viewing preferences. FaceTime also supports adding a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner to a call. The iPhone Duo foldable receives dedicated additions, including Apple Pencil support and Edge Light for video calls.

What’s new in macOS 27.2 and other Apple updates?

Apple’s macOS Golden Gate 27.2 includes Siri’s conversation memory, broader access to personal context and contextual suggestions in Messages. The release also includes bug fixes and security updates. WatchOS 27.2 receives similar Siri-related improvements, while visionOS 27.2 adds the new languages and updated Music icon. Apple has also released version 27.2 updates for iPad, Apple TV and HomePod products.

The macOS beta also contained references to gesture recognition in apps such as Photos, Notes and Safari. These may be related to reports about possible touch support on a future MacBook Pro, though that connection remains unconfirmed. The information is taken from Ars Technica and Engadget.
