'Fireable Offense': Why is Mike Florio demanding Commanders head coach Dan Quinn's firing?
Week 5 of the NFL showcased an unusual scenario as the Commanders battled the Giants, resulting in a disheartening 27-27 stalemate. Missed opportunities from quarterback Jayden Daniels and Coach Dan Quinn raised eyebrows over their strategic decis...

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn leaves the field after an NFL game against the New York Giants.
According to the pundit, the Commanders HC lacked situational awareness and questioned his play-calling.
"Fireable offense by the Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn. No awareness whatsoever of the situation. No one seemed to realise until it was too late to do anything about it. They need to line up the ball and spike it. Who in the world is calling these plays? The head coach is in charge of game day operations, and it is a Fireable offense."
So why did a tie invoke such a strong reaction from Florio and many others? What really happened in the game?
WHAT TRANSPIRED BETWEEN THE COMMANDERS AND THE GIANTS
The Commanders were on the Giants' 26-yard line with 55 seconds left on the clock. That gave them ample time to run the clock and kick a field goal to score and end the game. The next score in the OT wins the game.
But what happened next was something unexpected, especially from a seasoned coach like Quinn. The Commanders decided to run the ball with only 17 seconds left. Their QB, Jayden Daniels, tried to run, but couldn’t get far. He was brought down before he could gain a few yards.
With time running out, they needed to line up again and spike the ball to run another play, or kick a field goal. But before they could do that, the clock hit zero, and they were left with nothing but disappointment.
The elated Giants players couldn’t believe their luck as they somehow managed to steal a tie from the jaws of a certain defeat. Frustrated Dan Quinn couldn’t believe what happened in the middle and threw his headset away in anger.
Some blamed Jayden Daniels, while others blamed Dan Quinn. Fans couldn’t fathom the poor time management, calling out the team’s coaching and offense on social media. Many wondered why the Commanders didn’t kick the field goal.
Fans said, "That’s on Jayden Daniels and the offense. WTF are you doing?"
Another said, "That’s on the coach". Someone wrote, "Somebody’s brain needs to be studied".
A user stated, "Put this on horrible clock management hall of game, hole-leeeeee crap".
Another wrote, I’m lost. Why not kick the field goal on the 2nd down WTF."
Jayden Daniels and Dan Quinn became the targets of mockery, but had they managed to win, it would have been Giants running back Cam Skattebo facing the fans’ ire.
CAM SKATTEBO’S BLUSHES SPARED
The most relieved man in the stadium has to be New York’s RB Cam Skattebo. The Arizona State Alum looked certain to come out as a villain after it was his fumble that had handed the Commanders the ball in OT.
After both had failed to materialise on the possession in the OT, the Giants had gotten a ball again and only needed a field goal to win the game. After some good plays, they had progressed to Washington’s 35-yard line. 36-yard line.
With only 2 minutes left on the clock, they decided to run the ball throughh Skattebo, but the Giants RB unexpectedly fumbled the ball, losing possession at a critical time. But the Commanders couldn’t get the job done.
A BIZARRE WEEK FOR THE NFC EAST
It was a bizarre week for the NFC East Teams. All four teams - the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants, and the Washington Commanders played this week, but none of them managed to win a game despite two of them playing each other on Sunday.
The Cowboys had played the Buccaneers in PrimeTime football on Thursday but had lost 24-16 at home to a team that came into the game on the back of four consecutive losses.
The depleted Eagles side that travelled to London for the NFL international fixture lost to a spirited Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags kicker Cam Little became a hero after a last-second 57-yarder to take the game away from Nick Sirianni’s team.
In the final game for the NFC East, the Giants and the Commanders settled for a draw after both teams committed crucial mistakes in the OT.
