Kevin Garnett's unfinished dream house
Kevin Garnett bought the original property for $6.4 million in 2003 and began construction on it. The unfinished project was sold by the NBA star for $16 million in 2021. Lender Vladimir Valsky, CEO, VIG Private Lending, took control in 2022 and commissioned a four-year architectural overhaul to complete the residence.Garnett bought the property when he was with his longtime team the Minnesota Timberwolves. Garnett sold the property for $16 million in 2021 to developer Ando Hacopian of Hacopian Design & Development Group. After the sale, NBA star filed a lawsuit against Hacopian. He also filed another lawsuit against the involved title and escrow companies too while alleging fraud, the Real Deal reported. Hacopian also filed a countersuit. The CEO of VIG Private Lending Valsky was the lender on the 2021 purchase. He took over ownership of the property when the deal finally didn't materialize in 2022.
As per reports, the home was nearly done when Garnett sold it. It seems the property needed to comply with new fire codes, the reports said. The property's new owner Valsky overhauled the design and upgraded the decor.
Kevin Garnett's property makeover
“We acquired the property partially completed and saw the opportunity to finish the home the way a residence of this caliber demands. Rather than rush it to market, we committed to Roger’s vision, realizing the property’s full potential with the craftsmanship and detail this site deserves,” Valsky told Mansion Global. The general shell of the home and the basic layout wasn't altered in the makeover as the plumbing was already in place. The exterior of the house was changed. European elements and furniture were also added to the home.
The modern mansion overlooks the Pacific Ocean. It has come up on a triple lot. This property is built on an unusual amount of land for Malibu. One of the lots is still vacant and has its own address. An additional structure can be built on it, Kurath told Mansion Global.
Malibu mansion
The property has been redesigned from the original shell by architect Roger Kurath for Vladimir Valsky with the help of imported European materials. Kurath didn’t work with Garnett on the house. Kurath also worked on Gene Simmons's house in Beverly Hills. The mansion also has a 65-foot infinity pool, expansive decks, a pickleball court, a detached yoga or art studio and a 50-tree avocado orchard. The 11,000 square feet property overlooks the Pacific Ocean. It is located at 27715 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu, California. The house has a double-height living room, a private home theater, a wine cellar, a chef's kitchen, a fitness gym, and an ocean-facing primary suite with an oval soaking tub. The property has been listed by Chris Cortazzo of Compass, and Aaron Kirman and Tomer Fridman of Christie’s International Real Estate Southern California.
