Princess Diana's weekend getaway in Richmond, south-west London has hit the market for £25 million (US$33.4 million). The historic Georgian and Queen Anne-style estate is called Ormeley Lodge. The location of the property is Ham, Richmond, south-west London. The property is spread in 16,000 square feet covered area. The historic estate has 10 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a drawing room, a library, a wine cellar, and a self-contained guest apartment.

The weekend getaway in Richmond is built on 2.3 acres of land. The estate has walled gardens of wildflower meadows. It also has an orchard, a kitchen garden, an aviary, a tennis court, and an oval swimming pool with a pool house. The property has been listed by Knight Frank and Sotheby's International Realty UK.

Ormeley Lodge belonged Lady Annabel for more than 50 years, the listing said. The late socialite used to host several parties for political figures, celebrities, royals and other illustrious guests at the lodge.

Ormeley Lodge connection with Princess Diana

The estate was the longtime home of the late socialite Lady Annabel Goldsmith. She lived there from 1976 until her death in October 2025 at the age of 91. Her complete name is Lady Annabel Vane-Tempest-Stewart. She was also called Lady Annabel Birley. She was the daughter of the 8th Marquess of Londonderry.

During the 1960s and 1970s, she was a well-known figure in London society and gossip columns. A private members club called Annabel's was started in her name in 1963 in Mayfair, London, by her then-husband and entrepreneur Mark Birley. The club is located at 46 Berkeley Square in Mayfair, London.

Goldsmith seemed to be a 'mother figure' to Princess Diana. She never lived at the property but it was a private weekend sanctuary for her during the 1980s and 1990s. She used to visit the property often for Sunday lunch and relax frequently by the pool alongside Princes William and Harry.

The vast mansion is also famous for being the site of a 1989 birthday party of Annabel Elliot where Princess Diana directly confronted Camilla Parker Bowles, now Queen Camilla, about her relationship with then-Prince Charles, a Mansion Global report said. Annual summer parties were also famously hosted for political figures, celebrities, royals and other illustrious guests at the lodge by the Goldsmith.

Ormeley Lodge history

The estate was bought by the socialite in the 1970s with her second husband Sir James Goldsmith. The property is situated between the green spaces of Ham Common and Richmond Park. The mansion dates back to the final days of the Queen Anne period and the start of the Georgian era. It seems to have been built around 1714.
