Jonathan Bailey's £1.5 million home: Why the 'Wicked' star chose England's South Coast
Jonathan Bailey swapped London for life by the sea, buying a £1.5 million home on the Sussex coast last year. The Wicked star chose a four-bedroom villa near Brighton and Hove, close to family and the outdoor activities he enjoys. The move came as Bailey’s profile continued to rise, with roles in Bridgerton, Jurassic World Rebirth and the Wicked films bringing him wider attention. Although he was named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2025, the title has since passed to a new star in 2026.

Why did Jonathan Bailey choose Brighton and Hove

Bailey bought the property in an area on the border of Brighton and Hove that locals reportedly call “millionaires’ row”. The £1.5 million home has four bedrooms and sits in a sought after seaside enclave. One source described the location as a favourite among famous names. “It's A-list heaven where he is,” the source said. “It's one of the most amazing spots in the UK. It just shows what some cash from starring in blockbuster movies can buy.” The inputs are taken from The Daily Mail and Thr Argus.

Bailey’s neighbours include comedian David Walliams, musician Fatboy Slim and former Heartbeat actor Nick Berry. Paul McCartney and Adele have also owned homes in the area in the past.

The move reflects Bailey’s wish to spend more time near his family. He grew up in Oxfordshire, in the village of Brightwell cum Sotwell and later moved away from London during the pandemic.

What does Bailey love about life by the sea

Bailey told The New York Times that he moved to the Sussex coast between lockdowns to be closer to his family. “My mom’s side of the family was always by the sea, and I guess I’ve inherited that gene,” he said.

The actor has also spoken about his enjoyment of cold-water swimming and outdoor activities.

“I like outdoor activities that are bracing and stimulating: Being against, and leaning into, the elements has always been quite rewarding and meditative,” he said.

He added, “It gives your mind and body the same experience at the same time, which feels like a reset, if just for a few minutes.”

People magazine named him its Sexiest Man Alive, making him the first openly gay man to receive the title in 2025.

In 2026, the title went to actor Noah Wyle, known for The Pitt and ER. Bailey’s 2025 honour remains a milestone in his career, which has continued to grow alongside his move to the English coast.
