Rs 500, Rs 1,000 notes illegal? Here's where you can buy grocery, medicines and travel within the city using your debit/credit card

Are you in state of shock after the de-monetisation of the 500 and 1000 rupee notes. Larder empty? And also the medicine chest? Worried how will you get to office? Not to worry. If you have a debit card with sufficient balance in the bank savings account linked with it OR have a functional credit card then here's how you can sail through the next few weeks till the new currency issued by RBI makes it easier to buy groceries and medicines and other daily need items with cash.

If the balance in the savings account linked to your credit card is low, use net banking to transfer funds into that account from others or do a cheque transfer once banks open for business on November 10. If the credit limit on your credit card is fully used, pay off the dues on it using electronic payment channels before trying to use it.

Payment for intra-city travel
If you use a cab service on daily basis, taxi aggregators offer digital payment solution. Ola allows you to make payments using 'Ola Money'. It's like a pre-paid cab service, which means you pay a certain amount in advance using your credit / debit card or netbanking which is credited into your Ola Money account and pay for your rides using it. Uber offers you to pay via credit / debit card and Paytm wallet also.
If you choose to pay via credit card you can either scan your card or just punch in your card details and go ahead with the payment. There is a limitation though: Most of the above mentioned facilities are available only in the larger metros so people living in smaller Tier-3 towns may face more problems than those living in metros.
