The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releases a monthly list of state-wise bank holidays to ensure customers are not inconvenienced and can plan their banking tasks accordingly.

Are banks open or closed today on Saturday, September 5, 2026?

Banks across India are open today, September 5, 2026, as it is the first Saturday of the month. All scheduled and non-scheduled banks observe public holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays, along with Sundays and other regional holidays.


Otherwise, banks are open on the first, third and fifth Saturdays unless specified as a holiday in the RBI holiday calendar.

As per the RBI’s holiday calendar, banks will be closed in September 2026 on the occasions of Janmashtami (Vaishnva), elections in the jurisdiction of Jaipur Municipal Corporation, Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva, Ganesh Chaturthi, Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Nuakhai/Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd Day), Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva/Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi, Karma Puja, Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji Indrajatra, depending on the state.

Digital banking is available on bank holidays

Banking transactions at physical bank branches may not be possible on specific holidays and many services there may also not be available. Nevertheless, customers can use Internet banking, SMS banking and WhatsApp banking for both financial and non-financial activities.
