Services EPFO portal still provides to its subscribers

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has made some changes to the services available through its unified member portal. After the update in June, a few services related to the Universal Account Number (UAN) are no longer available on the EPFO portal and have been shifted to the UMANG app, where members can activate their UAN using Aadhaar-based face authentication. At the same time, members can continue using the EPFO portal for services such as tracking pension applications, generating or retrieving a UAN, and filing death claims.

Discontinuation of UAN activation on EPFO portal

The option to activate your UAN through the EPFO’s unified member portal has been discontinued. The EPFO has now shifted this service to the UMANG app, where UAN activation can be completed using Aadhaar-based Face Authentication (FAT).

What is the UMANG app?

The UMANG app (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) is an official government platform that allows users to easily access many Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) services on their smartphones without logging in to the EPFO’s official portal.

Services that are still available on EPFO portal-

  • Track application status
  • On the EPFO unified portal, you can track the application status for pension on higher wages.
  • UAN allotment for existing PF account
If you already have a PF account but do not have a UAN, you can get yourself a UAN allotted through the EPFO portal by simply verifying your mobile number, entering the required member details, completing the process to generate a UAN and link it with your existing PF account.

UAN retrieval

You can now retrieve or find your UAN through the EPFO portal in two simple steps. Enter your registered mobile number and upload the required identity/address proof. Then enter the OTP received on your mobile phone to verify your details and retrieve your UAN.

Death claim filing

Nominees can continue to file death claims, including pension-related claims, through the EPF unified member portal. Before starting the process, make sure the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active, and the required bank account details are readily available. The beneficiary should have a valid mobile number linked with their Aadhaar number.

Documents required for EPF death claim

  • Death certificate of member
  • Bank account proof [cancelled cheque /passbook] of beneficiary
  • Date of birth (proof of beneficiary)
  • Restrictions on the file being uploaded
  • Only the PDF file will be allowed
  • Size of each uploaded file should not be greater than 2 MB
  • File name should not contain any spaces
In June last week, EPFO services on the employer portal and the UMANG app were temporarily unavailable due to a scheduled system migration. This upgrade was aimed at providing faster, reliable, and secure services to its stakeholders.
