In some states, people may need to wait for more days for their bank-related work as banks there are also closed on Monday and Tuesday for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
Why have bank unions proposed a strike for September 11, 2026?
The UFBU has announced strikes as part of its demands concerning reforms in the banking sector. Among the key demands are the introduction of a five-day banking week and a review of the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.The unions have also urged the government to fulfil its commitment to introduce a five-day banking week.
Are banks open or closed on September 11, 2026?
While banks have made arrangements to keep essential services running, customers may face disruptions in branch-related work. State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank have advised customers to complete important transactions in advance and use digital banking channels, automated teller machines (ATMs) and other available services during the proposed strike. HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and few others are yet to issue statement on it.In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), State Bank of India said that it has made necessary arrangements to ensure normal functioning of branches and offices on the strike days.
SBI has also cautioned its customers that banking work may be impacted because of the proposed September 11 strike.
Punjab National Bank has issued a customer advisory regarding the September 11 strike. Customers are advised to use digital banking services for essential transactions during the strike, including UPI payments, mobile banking, internet banking, ATMs and ADWMs, says PNB.
SBI has also asked customers to use ATMs and automated deposit cum withdrawal machines (ADWMs) for their cash requirements and Customer Service Points (CSPs) for available banking services.
