Banks will be closed during the month of May due to prominent holidays such as Id-ul-Fitr, Buddha Purnima and Bhagvan Shree Parshuram Jayanti. Here is the full list of holidays in May 2022

Bank holidays differ depending on the state and are notified by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Operations of both public and private banks will be closed during these days. Since many bank transactions still need a visit to the bank, customers should take note of such holidays depending on the state.

The month of May has some popular occasions like Id-ul-Fitr, Buddha Purnima, and Bhagvan Shree Parshuram Jayanti due to which banks will be closed. The second and fourth Saturdays are also designated holidays.

  • May 2-Ramjan-Eid (Eid-UI-Fitra) (Monday): Banks are closed in Kerala
  • May 3-Bhagvan Shree Parshuram Jayanti/Ramjan-Eid (Eid-UI-Fitra)/Basava Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya (Tuesday): banks are closed across the country except in Kerala.
  • May 9-Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore (Monday): Banks are closed in Bengal
  • May 16- Buddha Purnima (Monday): Banks are closed in Tripura, Belapur, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana, Uttarakhand, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, New Delhi Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Srinagar.




According to the Reserve Bank of India bank holidays are categorised under these heads;
  • Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act
  • Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday
  • Banks’ Closing of Accounts
