First Wellness index for India launched: Here's the score

India’s first ever Wellness Index, which measures the well-being and quantifies the current state of wellness among people, has been launched.

Maximum score Possible for each of the indices is 25. Maximum possible total wellness index score is 100.
India’s first ever Wellness Index, which measures the well-being and quantifies the current state of wellness among people, has been launched by ICICI Lombard. India scores 58.3 out of 100, a reasonable score for the second most populated country in the world.

The Wellness Index consists of four parts which are as follows:

a) Understanding Index

Score: 19.8
This parameter explains wellness, along with its benefits among consumers. It consists of following elements:
  • Helps in living a prolonged life: 3.9
  • Being energetic and living an active life: 3.5
  • It’s about living a stress-free life: 3.3
  • Maintaining a healthy lifestyle: 3.2
  • Preventing common health-related issues: 1.7
  • Healthcare approach that helps prevent illness: 1.6
  • Advice on proper, balanced nutrition: 1.6
  • Being healthy in body and mind: 1.0
b) Influence index
Score: 13.6
What inspires the adoption of wellness practices. It consists of the following elements:
  • It’s my personal desire to remain fit & healthy: 6.9
  • I like compliments from peers/family members: 3.4
  • My friends started jogging, inspiring me to do the same: 1.4
  • I’m influenced by my idols and want to be like them: 1.0
  • I had an erratic eating pattern, which lead to weight issues: 0.9
c) Action index
These comprise current and future wellness practices by consumers. Elements of this index are:
  • Physical health is directly related to mental health: 6.0
  • Poor health leads to excessive expenditure: 3.9
  • I’m trying to bring discipline in my routine: 3.3
  • If my weight increases, it makes me unhappy: 2.8
  • I’ve tried to regulate my meals, diet: 1.4
d) Infrastructure Index
These include the physical enablers to wellness practices. It has following elements:
  • I have a fitness centre near my house: 4.1
  • I have a jogger’s park in my area where I go for jogging: 2.2
  • The fitness centre in my area is wellequipped: 1.0
  • I look for fitness amenities like gym/yoga in or around my office area: 0.2
The survey was conducted among 2,350 consumers across 11 cities, including Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Maximum score Possible for each of the indices is 25. Maximum possible total wellness index score is 100.
