What is the EPF?
Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is a retirement benefits scheme established by the Government of India to provide financial security to employees working in the organised sector. Here's a assumptions for calculation of the corpus you could build:
Rate of Interest: 8.25% per annum
Current age: 30 years
Age of Retirement: 60 years
Monthly salary (Basic + DA): Rs 25,000 (The basic salary plus dearness allowance considered for EPF calculations.)
Expected annual salary increase: 5%
Employer's EPF contribution: 3.67% (out of the employer's total 12% EPF contribution, only 3.67% goes to the employee’s EPF account. The remaining 8.33% generally goes to the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS) subject to EPS wage limits.)
Employee contribution to the EPF: 12% (The monthly EPF contribution limit is 12% of basic + DA). For a Rs 25,000 salary, this equals to Rs 3,000 per month. With an increment in basic pay, the EPF contribution will also increase every year.
EPF corpus calculations:
Estimated EPF maturity amount: Nearly Rs 1.12 crore.Earned interest: Rs 78.49 lakh
Power of compounding in EPF
Since EPF interest compounds every year, the EPF account will earn an interest of approximately Rs 78.49 lakh due to an 8.25% interest rate. The estimated corpus after 30 years is Rs 1.12 crore. The EPF interest rate is reviewed every year. In our calculations, we are expecting it to remain at 8.25% throughout the tenure.Importance of UAN and Aadhaar in EPF
Every EPF member is assigned a Universal Account Number (UAN), which is linked to their EPF accounts in all organisations they join. . Members can use the UAN to access various online services, such as checking their PF balance and service history, downloading their passbook and transferring their EPF account from one account to another. The EPFO also allows members to nominate nominees to ensure that a subscriber’s EPF funds are settled easily in case of their death. In addition, linking the EPF account to Aadhaar speeds up identification verification, claim processing and other online services.
