Missing US scientist update: Disappeared contractor overseeing hundreds of millions in nuclear weapons assets tied to earlier cases as list grows to 10

Another individual reportedly connected to US nuclear operations has gone missing, adding to the growing list of deaths and disappearances in recent years. Steven Garcia, 48, vanished on August 28, 2025, after leaving his home in Albuquerque on foot while carrying only a handgun. This case would mark the tenth bewildering disappearance involving individuals connected to US researchers, those rumored to have knowledge of UFOs, and people with secret military information.

According to the Daily Mail, citing an anonymous source, Garcia was a government contractor working for the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), described as a major facility with a behind-the-scenes role in America’s national defense.

Garcia allegedly served as a property custodian for the site, a role that reportedly granted him top security clearance in a building that manufactures more than 80% of all nonnuclear components used in US nuclear weapons.



As per the outlet, the source described Garcia's work as “a very high-level, overseeing position for all the assets. Tens, maybe hundreds of millions of dollars in equipment and assets, some of which are not classified, others would be classified.”

The Daily Mail also reported, citing police in Albuquerque, that Garcia was last captured on surveillance cameras leaving his home on Cattail Court SW just after 9 a.m. local time. He was wearing a green camouflage shirt and shorts and carrying a handgun, and authorities warned that Garcia “may be a danger to himself.”

However, the anonymous source disputed suggestions that the contractor may have been suicidal or experiencing mental health issues, according to the outlet.

Following reports of his disappearance, reporter and podcaster Lauren Conlin questioned officials during a sit-down with NewsNation, asking, "Is the government doing this, are they taking out their own people?” She also pointed out similarities between the contractor’s disappearance and retired Air Force general Neil McCasland’s mysterious vanishing.


McCasland, 68, previously oversaw classified space weapons programs and led research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. The base has long been rumored to house extraterrestrial debris from a UFO crash in Roswell.


McCasland’s wife, Susan Wilkerson, however, rejected speculation linking his disappearance to UFO-related knowledge and said that her husband does not have any special knowledge on this topic.
