The S&P/ASX 200 index settled 1.16% down at 6,024.0, following a 0.3% gain on Thursday. On a weekly basis, the benchmark fell about 0.2%.

In New Zealand, the benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index dropped 5 per cent to 10,333.27.

The S&P/ASX 200 index closed 1.1 per cent higher at 6,395.70.

The S&P/ASX 200 index tumbled 3.3 per cent, or 216.70 points.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index declined 0.2 per cent or 8.9 points to close at 5,580.60.

The S&P/ASX 200 index rose 0.4 per cent or 23.8 points to 5,681.5 at the close of trade for a weekly gain of 0.25 per cent.
