Masjid-e-Askari is a tribute to Persian Aga Ali Asker, the brain behind many rich heritage structures in Bengaluru including Balabrooie.

A successful Persian businessman and trader of horses, Asker maintained good relations with both the British and the Maharaja of Mysuru.

Named after a former British civil servant, Johnson Market was initially called Richmond Town Market.
