The partnership will train more than 5,000 SHGs across Karnataka in digital literacy and ecommerce, enabling them to sell directly on Flipkart, Walmart’s e-commerce platform.
Under the three-year partnership, Walmart Vriddhi, through its programme partner 'Ideas to Impact Foundation,' will also provide SHGs with free digital learning resources, business tools, and mentorship to help them expand their sales, both in India and abroad.
Skill development and medical education minister Dr Sharanaprakash R Patil said the initiative has great potential to transform the SHG ecosystem. “It will open new markets and create better income opportunities for thousands of women. Earlier, SHGs lacked digital marketing skills. With Walmart Vriddhi’s support, we can expect their products to reach a wider audience and earn fair value,” he added.
The state also plans to open an exclusive SHG products stall at the Kempegowda International Airport to showcase and sell locally made products to domestic and international travellers.
The state chief secretary, Shalini Rajneesh, said the move would give global visibility to Karnataka’s SHG products, which were earlier sold only during departmental fairs. “We had local talent; what we needed was external expertise like Walmart Vriddhi to take them global,” she said.
