Ecommerce platform Flipkart on Thursday announced the appointment of Vinay Vaidya as its senior vice president, technology for supply chain.

Vaidya will lead technology and platforms across fulfilment services, seller experience, trust and safety, and marketplace. He will also drive innovation in logistics and AI-powered capabilities, the company said.

Prior to joining Flipkart, Vaidya served as the chief technology officer at Tata Digital, where he led technology strategy, platform modernisation, and large-scale digital transformations. Before that, Vaidya worked with Amazon for 18 years. He started as a software development engineer and was eventually elevated to director of engineering and products for India stores.

“What excites me most about Flipkart is the opportunity to build technology at a scale and complexity that is uniquely Indian. From empowering millions of sellers to enabling one of the country’s largest supply chains, technology has the potential to make commerce simpler, faster, and more inclusive,” said Vaidya, in a statement.

Commenting on the appointment, Balaji Thiagarajan, chief product and technology officer, Flipkart, said, “Building and evolving (ecommerce) systems at India's scale requires a strong combination of product thinking, technology depth, and operational rigour, with pervasive intelligence embedded in every step. Vinay has led at that intersection across some of the most complex commerce environments, and he will play an important role in helping us strengthen the technology foundations that will power Flipkart's next phase of growth.”

The announcement comes at a time when the Flipkart group companies have seen a broader leadership shift, including a churn in their SVPs.

In April, the company’s quick commerce arm, Minutes, elevated Kunal Gupta to SVP from VP, as it is doubling down on fast delivery in India. Flipkart-owned fashion etailer Myntra onboarded Sharon Pais as the new head in April after chief executive Nandita Sinha stepped down from her role.

In March, Flipkart’s group chief financial officer Sriram Venkataraman also stepped down from his role. ET had reported in February that the ecommerce marketplace's SVP ranks were trimmed to less than a dozen from around 18 two years ago.
