Unacademy’s Graphy launches Rs 100-crore grant for creators

Bengaluru: Earlier today, content platform Graphy unveiled the Rs 100-crore Graphy Creator Grant, which aims to help applicants kickstart their online school. An Unacademy group company, Graphy is a platform that helps creators grow their audience, monetise their skills and host live cohort-based courses. Applications from influences, educators and domain experts are welcome, the website said.

The grant is expected to be deployed over the next two years, "to the creators on Graphy who are highly ambitious in building an online school and learning community that they can be proud of," according to Graphy's website. Currently, Graphy claims to have over 200 active creators.

A relationship manager is also expected to be assigned to help the applicant accomplish his or her goals. The manager will suggest promotion strategies as well, the website said.


Once an application is approved, the applicant will receive 50% of the funds. The remaining will be disbursed after the launch of the course.

Unacademy is one of the biggest players in the edtech industry. In February, the company acquired TapChief—an online platform for professionals to earn without full-time jobs—at a valuation of Rs 100 crore. Unacademy has made over seven acquisitions so far.

Other platforms have recently announced monetisation features for creators.

Social audio platform Clubhouse extended its Creator First program to India earlier this month. Short video app MX TakaTak* has also announced plans to launch a Rs 100-crore creator fund to encourage users to produce innovative content.
