Real-money gaming startup GetMega launched, targets 50 mn users
The company had raised over $9 million from Accel India, Nexus Ventures Partner and other angel investors in early-stage funding rounds.

The social gaming startup has 5 million registered users and is targeting 50 million by the end of the year. It is in talks with multiple global investors to raise more money, a spokesperson for the company said.
It was launched by over 200 YouTube influencers, including comedian Tanmay Bhatt, in a campaign that will last a week. The company hopes to bring on a million more customers through this campaign alone.
The Bengaluru-based startup was founded by Mayank Kumar and Lokesh Jangid, who previously founded Opinio, which was acquired by health and fitness startup Cure.Fit.
India’s gaming ecosystem has seen a rush of skill-based real-money platforms in the past few years. These include fantasy sports platforms such as Dream11, which are based on real-life sport, competitive video gaming (esports) companies such as Nazara technology (which is headed for an IPO soon); and single-game and multi-game platforms for card games, carrom and more, such as GetMega and Mobile Premier League.
On GetMega, users can play games such as carrom, rummy and poker with their friends and have the option to turn on their audio and video to recreate a real-life experience. Currently only on Android, the app will soon allow users to find other players in their networks. The company plans to launch an iOS version in the next few months. It is also eyeing an international launch this year, the spokesperson added.
