BPO industry taking initiatives to address security concerns

The BPO industry has taken several initiatives, including training of police personnel, to tackle cyber security concerns, software industry body Nasscom said on Tuesdfay.

BANGALORE: The BPO industry has taken several initiatives, including training of police personnel, to tackle cyber security concerns, software industry body Nasscom today said.

"The industry is taking a number of initiatives to counter check any kind of frauds or security concerns," Nasscom President Som Mittal said.

"We have also taken up training of police personnel to tackle cyber crimes," he said adding that a number of such programmes were being held in collaboration with the police.

Majority of culprits in frauds or cyber crime have been nabbed by the police, he said, adding the subsequent legal process though was time consuming.

The industry had also sought amendment to the IT Act to help towards achieving this objective.

Several companies have individually taken up measures to address the security concerns, he said.

Preventive steps like finger printing, sophisticated screening process have been deployed in various firms.

Last year, cyber fraud globally was to the tune of 10 billion dollar and India figure low compared to the global statistics, said Raman Roy, MD Quattro.

According to Mittal, the Indian industry had taken up elaborate measures to address the issue and which was among the most extensive one compared to the rest of the globe.
