Long way to go for Twitter to attract Indian internet users
A new survey by internet marketing firm GlobalWebIndex shows that of the 123 million internet users in India, 67 per cent have a Twitter account but only 30% of the account holders have used Twitter in the last one month. The survey includes data from 32 countries from July to September 2013.

On Wednesday night, Twitter had raised $1.8 billion in an IPO, selling 70 million shares to a few select investors for $26 a piece. On Thursday, the company's stock was trading at $44.90 that pegged its valuation at $31 billion, almost $13 million more than its IPO price.

Emerging markets like India, the study details, remain more active on social networks compared with developed countries. While Facebook still has the highest penetration of active users among account owners at 62 per cent globally, Twitter has 51 per cent and 44 per cent for Google+.

Mobile and tablet usage is beginning to heavily impact social media usage with mobiles having the biggest effect on Twitter which is used by 94 million active Twitter to share photos compared to 140 million on personal computers. This is the highest proportion of mobile versus personal computer photos sharing of any social network.
