NEW DELHI: Amazon on Wednesday announced that the India Kindle Store will now be available in India, helping consumers to buy e-books in rupees. The company also announced its partnership with Croma Retail, saying the popular Kindle e-reader will now be available at Croma stores across the country.

Amazon's website has been updated to automatically detect visitors from India and announce that the Kindle e-book reader is now available 'at a store near you' - the link directs you to the Croma web portal.

Indeed, the Kindle e-book reader has been available in India since its launch, shipped directly from Amazon.com. Various e-retailers and online marketplaces like Indiaplaza, Flipkart, Indiatimes Shopping and eBay India have been offering the Kindle device, shipped from an Indian location.

Amazon's new announcement means that customers can now look and feel the product before buying, apart from paying in rupees. It also launched the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) service, which helps independent authors get their work published in the e-book format.
