Founded by IIM Ahmedabad alumni Nishank Goyal, Akhil Kumar, and Bodhi Rathor, Gimi Michi is building a Korean food brand for the Indian market. The founders previously worked at companies like BCG, Mondelez, AB InBev, and Pluckk.
The company plans to use the funding for product development, team expansion, brand building, and strengthening distribution across quick commerce channels.
Gimi Michi was launched six months back to address the limited availability of Korean food products in India, where interest in Korean culture has grown over the past decade. It is already seeing growing traction on quick commerce and nearly 50% of its sales come from tier-II and -III cities.
"Our belief was that Korean food would follow the same trajectory as Korean entertainment in India," said Goyal. "What makes this category unique is that consumers already know what they are looking for. They have been exposed to Korean cuisine through years of consuming Korean content, and they want products that deliver that experience without the barriers of high prices or limited availability."
Commenting on the funding, Sahil Makkar, partner, IndiaQuotient, said, “Every generation finds its own food. For Indian millennials, it was Maggi — the brand that made noodles a staple in every home. For Gen Z and Gen Alpha, it is Korean food. And Gimi Michi is well positioned to own that moment.”
