BigBasket, others to resume delivery services in the capital

As the country enters the second day of the lockdown due to Covid-19, online grocery seller BigBasket has announced that it be resuming their delivery services in some parts of the country including Delhi from Thursday. The other retailers include Zomato, Swiggy, Grofers, MedLife and others.

BigBasket also issued a statement announcing that they will be restart their services in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Indore, Mumbai, Mysore, Noida, Surat, Vadodara . But as the demand is very high there will be delay in services for upto a week.

It stated that though they were not operating in Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Nagpur, Patna, Vijayawada at the moment it is expected to begin very soon. No announcement has been made about resuming delivery services in Chennai, Pune, Kochi, Vizag and Ludhiana.


Deliveries for online retailers had come to a halt over the last three days as fulfilment centres were closed, on-ground staff and delivery personnel were not able to move on the roads, and trucks carrying supplies across state borders were pulled up.

Some delivery staff had complained about police beating them up for doing their jobs. According to reports, the delivery executives will be given identity cards issued by their companies which can be shown to the police and security when needed. This will help in the delivery of essential items to the people's doorstep.

Flipkart too has begun its delivery processes after putting it on hold for sometime.


In a tweet on Wednesday, Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said "We are grateful for the clarification provided by the government and local state authorities on the functioning of e-commerce during the lockdown. We are resuming our grocery services today. India, we are committed to serving you at this time Folded hands Thank you for your trust."
