Amazon's Venugopal is Myntra CTO

BENGALURU: Flipkart-owned fashion retail platform Myntra has appointed founding member of Amazon India Development Centre, Jeyandran Venugopal, as the chief technology officer. He will replace Ajit Narayanan who was instrumental in developing the Artificial-Intelligence-driven private label Moda Rapido for the portal.

The company has also made senior hires in senior engineering roles including the appointment of Mohan Sunkara of Intuit as vice-president and distinguished architect Arun Samudrala as principal architect and former senior engineer at Ola, Sriram Iyer as vice-president of engineering.

Jeyandran Venugopal, who has previously worked with Snapdeal and Yahoo, was associate with his entrepreneurial venture Eclin ic247 since 2014.

"Jeyandran joins us at a crucial phase when Myntra is treading firmly on its path to profitability. We have always laid emphasis on having a strong leadership and his appointment brings that to the fore," said Myntra-Jabong CEO Ananth Narayanan.

The fashion arm of Flipkart is targeting profitability for fiscal 2018 and closed FY 2016-17 at a GMV of $1 billion for Myntra-Jabong combine with 30% of the sales coming from Jabong which the portal had acquired in 2016 for $70 million. ET had previously reported that parent Flipkart had increased the annual allocation to Myntra for the year by 25% after it received $1.4 billion from Tencent, eBay and Microsoft in April.
