The latest trend catching attention among travellers around the world is the practice known as "rawdogging" during flights. This concept entails passengers intentionally opting for complete mental detachment throughout the flight, abstaining from any form of entertainment or stimulation.
This includes refraining from using headphones for music or audiobooks, avoiding in-flight movies or videos on smartphones, and even shunning traditional forms of reading such as books or newspapers.
Unlike other strategies aimed at calming nervous flyers, such as the "alpha bridge" technique for inducing sleep during flights, rawdogging takes a starkly different approach. While methods like the alpha bridge focus on easing anxiety and promoting relaxation through sleep, rawdogging challenges individuals to push their mental and physical boundaries to the extreme.
In essence, raw-dogging involves sitting passively, staring straight ahead, and abstaining from any mental engagement or external stimulus. This extreme form of disconnection extends to forgoing food, water, or any other distractions that might stimulate the mind or body.
The underlying belief is that by embracing this minimalistic approach, passengers can achieve a state of mental rest and relaxation amidst the usual hustle of air travel. For those practicing rawdogging, the in-flight map appears to be the only acceptable screen to glance at occasionally.
The trend has seen several TikTok content creators sharing their attempts at this unique endurance test.

According to a New York Post article, the concept has drawn comparisons to the Apple TV series Hijack, where the protagonist, played by Idris Elba, maintains a stoic demeanor during a hijacked seven-hour flight.
