France has introduced a mandatory online system for booking all visa appointments, according to a report by Travel and Leisure Asia. The new requirement applies to both short-stay Schengen visas and long-stay national visas.

This digital shift is now in effect and applies to all international travellers seeking entry into France. The aim is to streamline the visa application process, improve screening efficiency, and prevent overbooking. As of now, there are no exemptions from the online procedure.

As per the report, travellers must use official portals such as Visa Wizard and Démarches Simplifiées to initiate and complete their visa applications. These platforms guide users through the steps, including checking if a visa is needed, identifying the correct type, uploading documents, and paying applicable fees.

Applicants who have visited the Schengen Area in the last six months can use the Visa Calculator tool to determine how many days they are still permitted to stay in the region.

The new process replaces previous manual booking methods and aims to reduce congestion within the visa appointment system. Authorities advise travellers to familiarise themselves with the updated procedure well in advance of any planned travel to France.
