After Virat Kohli, Team India captain Rohit Sharma also announced retirement from T20 world cricket. Announcing his retirement, he said that there is no better time to say goodbye. Rohit Sharma joined the exclusive company of Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni as the third captain to lead India to an ICC World Cup victory. This marked Sharma's third World Cup match in under a year, following India's losses in the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup against Australia last year.

Rohit Sharma, however, confirmed that he will continue in ODI & Tests for India. "This was my last game as well," the captain said in his post-match press conference, referring to Virat Kohli's earlier announcement that he will be retiring from T20Is. I've enjoyed since the time I started playing this format. Better a time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. This is what I wanted - I wanted to win the cup," and he saluted the room, to applause from the media.

India ended their 11-year quest for a global title with a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup final, thanks to Virat Kohli's strategic brilliance and Rohit Sharma's inspirational leadership. This win marks Sharma as only the third captain, after Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni, to lift the ICC World Cup for India.

The star batsman, who had been struggling with low scores, redeemed himself with a match-winning 76 and was named player of the match. Reflecting on his decision, the 35-year-old stated, "This was my last T20 World Cup, and achieving this was our goal."

Acknowledging his fluctuating form, Kohli added, "One day you feel you can't get a run, then things happen. God is great, and I got the job done for the team on the day it mattered."

Regarding his retirement from T20 internationals, Kohli affirmed during the presentation ceremony, "This was an open secret, it's time for the next generation to take over. Some amazing players will lead the team forward and uphold its pride."

Former India captain Kohli, recognized as one of his generation's finest batsmen, surpassed his previous tournament performances with a standout innings in the final.
