Ind vs Aus: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul put India in driver's seat against Australia at end of day 2

Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul stitched an unbeaten partnership of 172 runs in the second innings of the first Test at Perth to put India in the driver's seat.

Jaiswal (90 not out) and KL Rahul (62 not out) extended India's lead to 218 runs at the end of day 2.



Earlier, Team India staged an outstanding comeback with the ball in the first Test against Australia at Perth. After being bowled out for 150, Indian pacers hit the right lines and lengths to restrict Australia for and take a lead of 46 runs.


Jasprit Bumrah, who had taken four wickets on day 1, picked up one more wicket to complete a fifer, while debutant Harshit Rana grabbed three wickets and Mohammed Siraj got two wickets.

Australia's last pair of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood put on a spirited partnership of runs 25 runs off 110 balls to reduce India's lead.

Starc top scored for the hosts with 26 runs off 112 balls, while wicket-keeper Alex Carey scored 21 runs.

The first day had turned into a bowlers’ delight, with 17 wickets tumbling on a lively pitch. India was bowled out for 150 in the first innings, and Australia struggled in reply, ending the day at 67 for 7.


Electing to bat first on day 1, India faced a tough challenge as their innings folded for 150 in just 49.4 overs. Debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy was the standout performer with 41 runs off 59 balls, while Rishabh Pant contributed a solid 37. KL Rahul, after a cautious start, was dismissed controversially for 26 just before lunch.

Australia’s bowlers made the most of the conditions, with Josh Hazlewood taking 4 for 29. Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh, and Pat Cummins supported well, picking up two wickets each.
