The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the tender document for the title sponsorship rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the 2024–2028 seasons.

The cricket board said that the tender document will be available for purchase until January 8, 2024.

It has barred brands from categories like alcohol products, betting, cryptocurrency, real money gaming (excluding fantasy sports gaming), tobacco, and one that is likely to offend public morals, such as, but not limited to, pornography, from participating in the bidding process.

The BCCI has also informed that the highest bid submitted by the parties will be subject to Tata Sons, the incumbent title sponsorship rights holder, exercising its right to match the highest bid.

As per the previous title sponsorship agreement between BCCI and Tata Sons, BCCI is required to notify the company of the highest bid amount received for the title sponsorship rights under the tender process.

Consequently, Tata will have the right, but not an obligation, to match the highest bid within five working days of the date of opening of the financial bids and notify its intent to the BCCI.

If Tata exercises its right to match the highest bid, then BCCI will be obligated to grant the title sponsorship rights for the rights period to the company, the BCCI clarified.

Tata Sons became the title sponsor of the IPL in January 2022, for two years. It reportedly committed Rs 670 crore for the two-year title sponsorship rights.

The salt-to-software conglomerate had replaced mobile handset manufacturer Vivo as the title sponsor of the IPL. Vivo had acquired the IPL title sponsorship rights for a whopping Rs 2200 crore for the 2018–2022 seasons.

However, it had to give up the title sponsorship rights following the public outcry against Chinese brands due to the standoff between the Indian and Chinese armies in the Galwan Valley.

The BCCI also said it reserves the right to cancel or amend the bidding process at any stage in any manner without providing any reason.
